Understanding Colour Analysis: Uncover Your Personal Palette
FAQs
-
Color analysis is a personalized process that helps individuals discover the colours that best complement their unique features. This practice is grounded in the principles of colour theory and involves evaluating how various colours interact with an individual’s natural colouring, ultimately enhancing their appearance and boosting self-confidence.

At Persona in Palette, our colour analysis sessions consider three critical dimensions of colour: undertone, value, and intensity.
Undertone: We assess whether an individual has warm, cool, or neutral undertones, which significantly influence how colours appear against their skin.
Value: This refers to the lightness or darkness of a colour. We determine this by observing the depth of an individual’s features—dark hair and eyes typically suggest deeper values, while lighter hair and eyes lean towards lighter values.
Intensity: This dimension deals with the brightness or softness of colours. We evaluate whether an individual’s colouring is clear and bright, or more muted and soft.

To conduct an effective colour analysis, I utilize several techniques, including:
Draping: This hands-on method involves placing various fabric swatches in different colours around the individual's face to observe which shades enhance their natural beauty and which may wash them out. This visual assessment is crucial for making accurate determinations.
Feature Assessors: I use undertone, intensity and value assessors besides the clients face to aid in the determination of their best colour palettes.
Lipstick assessors: Lipstick assessors help the client see significant differences between their best and worst makeup colours and helps confirm the analysis.
Hair Assessors: The hair assessors determine whether the client suits light or dark value coloured hair.

Based on the findings from the undertone, value, and intensity assessments, I classify clients within seasonal palettes—spring, summer, autumn, or winter—and their respective flows. Each season consists of a unique set of colours that harmonize with the individual’s natural colouring. Additionally, I recognize that clients may belong to specific flows—hybrids of two different seasonal palettes—to highlight their unique colouring nuances.
